Decomposition Shower
An outdoor water shower heated by the microbial life within a compost pile.
Composting, the microbial breakdown of organic material, generates a remarkable amount of energy. As this energy is released as heat, temperatures within a pile can climb to 50C (140F).
On the Cimo De Villa farm in Celorico de Basto, Portugal, we asked ourselves: What if we could repurpose this biologically generated energy as a means to heat an outdoor shower? How might we embed our energy need within the immediate ecosystem?
